Summary
In continuation of the investigations on 17-alpha-oxyprogesterone (I), the reduction products of I in normal individuals were examined.
Experiments with liver-homogenates with addition of I revealed that the liver participates in this reduction. After administration of I the urinary metabolites were compared, also in cases of adrenal hyperplasia, where a blockage of corticosteroid synthesis is assumed in the I phase. The results show a grouping of the cases according to the ratio of Pregnantriol-(IV)-/17-ketosteroid-(V) excretion. Those cases where the excretion of IV is the greater are like those after administration of I. An additional disturbance is discussed for those cases, in which the excretion of V outweighs that of IV, and the diagnostic importance of the Pregnantriol excretion is pointet out.
