Summary
The well-known effect of strychnine on the stretch reflex is found to involve a strong component of recruitment of fresh motoneurones.
The effect of strychnine on discharge rate distinguishes two types of cells: 1. those which are but little influenced in firing frequency by the drug and 2. those which undergo a considerable increase of firing rate.
Suggestions are made as to the underlying cause of this differentiation.
