Summary
In Amiurus (Amiuridae, Siluroidea, Teleostei) within the basal parts of the epidermis there exists a plexiform network of delicate nerve fibres, which is connected with the nervous plexus of the dermis and the plexuses of the taste buds. All these structures show positive reaction for acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Some of the cholinergic nerve fibres surround in a ringlike manner the basal parts of solitary cells which may have chemosensory function. The remaining fibres are ending as free nerve terminals.
