Prostate ultrasonography: applications in carcinoma of the prostate

  • Published:
World Journal of Urology Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Ultrasonography of the prostate gland proved to be a reliable tool predicting the preoperative prostate volume. Regarding screening of prostate carcinoma, transrectal ultrasonography of the prostate (TRUS) seems to be a valuable method in addition to rectal digital examination and PSA. TRUS is also helpful in aiding prostatic biopsies and in staging of organ confinement of prostate cancer.
