An example of a partially closed griffith crack

Abstract

The problem of a Griffith crack in a thin plate, which is opened by a uniform all-round tension at infinity, is considered. The crack is then partially closed in a symmetric manner by ties, idealized by point loads in the material, and the effect upon the stress intensity factors is discussed.

Résumé

On considère le problème d'une fissure de Griffith dans une planche mince, qu'on fait ouvrir par une tension, tout autour uniforme. Puis, on ferme partiellement la fissure, dans une manière symétrique par les crampons, traité des forces concentrées dans le matériel, et on discute l'effets sur les facteurs de concentration de tension.

Zusammenfassung

Ein Griffischer Riß in einer dünnen Platte wird untersucht, der geöffnet wird durch eine gleichmäßige, von alien Seiten wirkende Spannung ins Unendliche. Der Riß wird dann teilweise geschlossen, und zwar in symmetrischer Weise, mit Hilfe von Bindegliedern, durch Punktkräfte im Material idealisiert. Die Wirkung auf die Spannungsintensitätsfaktoren wird diskutiert.
