Abstract

We report a 6-year-old male who presented with anal bleeding associated with an unusual anal polyp. The polypoid lesion had been preceded by an anal fissure that was noticed after birth. Examination revealed a reddish, sessile, polypoid lesion of the anterior wall of the anal canal, which was removed by local excision. The histopathologic findings were consistent with an inflammatory cloacogenic polyp (ICP). Following excision, there has not been any recurrence during a follow-up period of 5 months. This case suggests that ICP is not a distinct entity, but rather a variation of the disorder called solitary rectal ulcer syndrome.
