Secondary crack trajectory for longitudinal shear problems

International Journal of Fracture Mechanics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

In some practical problems the direction of crack growth is not colinear with the orientation of the pre-existing and unloaded crack. The longitudinal shear loading is one for which an analytical solution can be exploited and the strain energy variation with respect to relative orientation can be evaluated.
