Abstract
Routine bladder augmentation results in gastrointestinal tract mucosa coming into contact with urine, which is now recognised to be associated with a number of complications. A historical review of the techniques for creating a urothelial-lined reservoir is presented, highlighting the evolution of the recently developed autoaugmentation gastrocystoplasty.
