Summary
A sodium-iodide scintillation probe and a portable scaler rate-metre were used to localize small bone tumours at operation, after the preoperative injection of technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate. This technique allows complete removal of the tumour nidus of an osteoid osteoma or the active part of other lesions without undue sacrifice of the surrounding bone. The method has been used for successful relief of pain in thirteen patients.
Résumé
La scintigraphie osseuse au méthylène diphosphonate de technetium-99m a été utilisée en per-opératoire afin de localiser de petites tumeurs invisibles en radiologie conventionnelle et donc indédectables par l'amplificateur de brillance. Dans tous les cas étudiés, une scintigraphie préopératoire avait pu montrer la lésion. Durant l'intervention, les lésions furent repérées grâce à une sonde de scintimétrie au sodium-iodide. Ceci permit une résection complète au prix d'un sacrifice osseux minimal. Tous les patients furent soulagés de leurs douleurs préopératoires.
