Abstract
We report the occurrence of tracheal compression in an infant with oesophageal atresia without tracheo-oesophageal fistula. Oesophageal pressure measurement and capnography demonstrated that distension of the upper oesophageal segment caused airway obstruction. The tracheal obstruction was relieved by decompression of the upper oesophageal segment, or by continuous positive airway pressure. The tracheal compression was relieved by oesophageal anastomosis.
