Summary
The authors studied spatial sommations of 60 normal eyes at 23°5 from the fovea on the inferior nasal meridien (22°5) for two backgrounds: photopic (7.5 Ulpsb) and mesopic (6.3 Ulpsb) with the „explorateur Universal du sens lumineux de jaule & blet”.
They found that the sommation coefficient does not vary for the three smaller sizes of the test object (about 6′, 18′, and 64′).
For larger areas, variations of the sommation coefficient were so important that the law of sommation, LxKS = Constant, was not obeyed.
A mathematic and statistic study shows that:
-
1.
The variations of the sommation coefficient could not be assimiled to a linear fonction except for the three first test objects.
-
2.
A theoric curve was computed fitting closely to the experimental curve.
-
3.
At the mesopic background (6.3 Ulpsb) statistic variations of the coefficient were less important than at the photopic background.
