Magnetic field configurations which can produce prominences with inverse polarity

Abstract

In this Letter several observational aspects of prominences with inverse magnetic polarity are summarised. It is shown that these features can be explained in a natural way if inverse polarity prominences result from the merging of two adjacent bipolar magnetic regions.
