Conclusion

This article has shown how measures of economic in equality and the notion of “status scores” can be used to derive corresponding measures of social mobility based upon social mobility matrices. It would be interesting to investigate other areas of overlap between measures of economic inequality and of social mobility e.g. the axiomatic approach (Bibby, 1975b).
