Summary
The marine algal vegetation of the Bay of Gdansk (Polish Baltic) was investigated by application of the methods of the phytosociological school Zürich-Montpellier. A diving helmet was used for the first time for such a purpose. The phytosociological lists therefore can be assumed to be as reliable as those of terrestrial vegetations.
The following 5 associations were distinguished and described:

Fuceto-Furcellarietum, at the depths of 2,5–4 m

Chareto-Tolypelletum, in the inner parts of the Bay of Puck, at the depths of 2–3 m.

Cladophora glaucescens community, in the neighbourhood of the harbour of Gdynia, at the depth of 60 cm.

4.
Enteromorpha Linza — Spirulina subsalsa community, living on solid substrata in the harbours, reaching downwards to 5 m.

Enteromorphetum compressae, close under the water level in the harbours.
