The superconducting transition temperature T c of 2H NbSe2 was measured under uniaxial stress applied parallel to the crystal c axis. It was found that T c decreases as the increasing applied compression, while it increases under hydrostatic pressure. It is concluded that T c is strongly enhanced by the contractive strain within layers and is insensitive to the interlayer spacing.
