Abstract
A diploid chromosome number of 2n=48 has been observed in Puntius conchonius (Cyprinidae) with the chromosome formula n=5m+10sm+5st+4t. The bivalents at metaphase I exhibit a single terminal or non-terminal chiasma each.
The karyotypic details of Puntius conchonius observed during the present investigation are quite different from those previously recorded.
