Analysis of a BCS model fatigue crack near a free surface

Abstract

A shear crack at a free surface with the plastic zone is treated as a double pile-up of screw dislocations. The rate of growth of the crack under fatigue is determined. The effect of the free surface on the rate of growth of the fatigue crack is determined and the results discussed.

Résumé

Une fissure de cisaillement à une surface libre avec zône plastique est assimilée à un double empilement de dislocation vis. La vitesse de croissance de la fissure sous l'effet de la fatigue est déterminée, ainsi que l'influence de la surface libre, sur ce taux de croissance. Les résultats sont l'objet d'une discussion.
