Summary
The F1 inter-subgeneric hybrid N. glutinosa L. × N. umbratica Burbidge revealed that N. glutinosa (2n=24) is distantly related to N. umbratica (2n=46). The synthetic amphiploid N. glutinosa × umbratica (2n=70) which is stable in morphology and cytology, with good fertility for five generations, is an experimental verification of the postulate by Goodspeed (1954).
