The invariance of the J versus Δc curve for plane strain crack growth in ductile materials

Abstract

Wnuk's modification of the Dugdale-Bilby-Cottrell-Swinden model is extended to demonstrate that the form of the J versus Δc curve for plane strain crack growth in ductile materials is independent of geometry and the extent of yielding, provided the crack extension Δc is small, and the material has a sufficiently low yield stress and a sufficiently high crack growth resistance.

Résumé

Le modèle de Dugdale-Bilby-Crottell-Swinden et modifié par Wnuk est étendu en vue de démontrer que la forme de J en fonction de Δc dans le cas d'une croissance d'une fissure en état plan de déformation dans les matériaux ductiles est indépendante de la géométrie et de l'étendue de la déformation plastique, pour autant que l'extension de la fissure Δc est faible et que le matériau ait une limite élastique suffisamment faible et une résistance à la croissance d'une fissure suffisamment élevée.
