Abstract

The inheritance of the leaf number of the main axis of winter rye found by the writer in 1960 was confirmed. In case of early sowing (13/10) the leaf number had not inconsiderably enhanced, in case of later sowing (7/11) the difference was smaller. The total leaf area also increased with a higher leaf number.

Plants with a larger leaf number recovered considerably sooner from an attack by Erysiphe graminis.
