Abstract
Twenty-two somatic chromosomes have been found in six Coffea species: C. arnoldiana, C. bengalensis, C. carrissoi, C. kapakata, C. ligustroides and C. racemosa. Their chromosome lenghts were compared with those of some previously studied species. These comparisons justified the grouping, proposed by some authors, of C. arnoldiana and C. liberica, C. bengalensis and C. horsfieldiana, C. ligustroides and C. racemosa. C. kapakata may be brought together with the two latter species. No difference appears between the different idiograms observed in the genus.
