Summary
The everbearing progeny from crosses between three short-day and four everbearing genotypes were assessed for early fruit yield and stolon production. General combining ability (GCA) was found to be important for fruit yield but specific combining ability (SCA) was more important for stolon production. The results suggested that it should be possible to combine early fruiting and adequate stolon production in an everbearing genotype. The breeding strategy necessary to achieve this aim is discussed.
