Abstract
The macrozoobenthos of eight types of land-water interfaces of Lake Geneva was sampled three times between October 1988 and July 1989. Three artificial interfaces (concrete walls, cracked walls, embankments) and five natural interfaces (stony shores, stony shores below a riparian forest, reed-belts, clayey banks and sandy shores) were chosen, according to their qualitative or quantitative importance in Swiss lakes.
Macroinvertebrate density, diversity, richness and occurence frequency were calculated for each interface. Correspondence analysis was used to show the differences between the interfaces and between the stations.
In the artificial interfaces taxonomic richness, diversity and density were low. They were characterized by the most frequent taxa in the interfaces studied and by taxa associated with hard substrate interfaces. The natural interfaces, besides the sandy shore, showed high taxonomic richness, diversity and density values and were characterized by less frequent taxa in the studied interfaces or taxa specific for one type of interface.
