Summary
Acid gradient elution technique was used at three stages with low, medium and high acid concentrations (N/10, 5 N and 10 N HCl) successively to dissolve phosphorus components of varying solubility. Chittor soil and sand each mixed with tricalcium phosphate and ferrous phosphate were eluted by this technique. It has been possible to roughly demarcate the peaks of Al, Fe and Ca bound phosphates in the gradient elution curves.
Chittor and Udaipur soils (untreated) soils leached with 1 N NH4Cl solution and various residues left after extraction by Chang and Jackson's procedure were subjected to similar three stage acid gradient elution. Results have clearly indicated that the extraction procedure with successive extractants produces secondary reaction products. An examination of three stage acid gradient elution curves and relevant data has been carried out.
