Abstract
Hapalosiphon fertilissima sp. nov. has been isolated from enrichment cultures of paddy field soils, Karjat (India). Morphology and reproduction of the alga have been studied in detail. The new species is distinct in producing entire sporogenous filaments with characteristic barrel-shaped spores which remain undissociated and may germinate in situ.
