Abstract
The paper is concerned with a series of cases of complex stress state of metals and polymers (non-linear stress state, cyclic loading) as well as with the influence of molecular motion in the polymer chains on fracture and creep. It has been shown that all the cases considered may be to some extent explained within the framework of the kinetic concept of fracture developed by S.N. Zhurkov. It has been noted that many experimental facts can be more easily understood if the role of deformation as an independent process is taken into account.
