Summary

Karanjin, the major crystalline principle of karanja (Pongamia glabra Vent.) seeds, is shown to be a potent nitrification inhibitor. It compares well with N-serve in pot-culture experiments with rice crop. Structure activity relationship studies with chemically altered molecules from karanjin show that its furan ring is essential for showing the inhibitory effect. re]19751013
