Short-term effects of liming on perch Perca fluviatilis populations in acidified lakes in South-West Sweden

Abstract

Gill net catches of perch Perca fluviatilis in eight acidified lakes immediately before liming are compared] with catches in the same lakes two years after liming. Simultaneously, six control lakes, not limed, were investigated with the same procedures. A significant increase in the average catches of perch was found in the limed lakes, but not in the control lakes. This result confirms earlier reports, although seldom supported with data from controls, on successful recovery after liming.
