Abstract

The five immature stages of Plea frontalis are described from a Sri Lankan population, and contrasted with data from Neoplea striola, the only other pleid for which a detailed description of developmental stages exists. The adult male and female are described fully for the first time. High levels of variation in face pattern and shape of the ventral keel, characters used traditionally to discriminate species, were found within P. frontalis populations.
