Synopsis
This study deals with the taxonomy of ammocoetes of the North American lamprey genus Ichthyomyzon. The characters most useful to identify them are the pigmentation patterns on the caudal fin and the different areas of the head, as well as the number of myomeres. These characters serve as the basis for a taxonomic key to ammocoetes 56 mm in total length and up.
