Electrical Mountain Rescue Vehicle with Innovative Suspension

Under the project name Barry, an electric mountain rescue vehicle with compact outer dimensions is currently being developed. Research at the Ruhr University Bochum made it possible for an unconventional suspension, which combines high driving comfort with exceptional driving characteristics, to be integrated into the vehicle. Since the technology does not require any electrical control in comparison to today’s high-performance suspensions and thus is resource-conserving, the concept could be an interesting alternative for future electric vehicles in general.
At first sight the requirements for a vehicle, which represents the ideal companion for the tasks of the mountain rescue, seem extremely contradictory. In order to be able to travel on trails, the outside dimensions of the vehicle must not be significantly larger than those of a quad.
