SCRF Concept for Future Legislation

By introducing a particle number limit in the EU Stage V non-road legislation, similar exhaust aftertreatment systems as for on-road will be used in future. Due to the variety of non-road applications, the vehicle integration of an EU Stage V exhaust aftertreatment system is a major challenge. In this study, Johnson Matthey and AVL show how the SCRF (Selective Catalytic Reduction on Filter) exhaust aftertreatment concept offers significant potential for achieving stricter emission levels and reduction of the installation space.

Motivation

In the coming years, the diesel engine in on- and non-road applications stands before another global tightening of the emission legislation. For non-road applications, for example, by introducing a particle number limit for EU Stage V, a closed diesel particulate filter (DPF) is effectively required.
