Occurrence of Association of Pinna nobilis with Two Decapod Species in Mediterranean French Waters

In the frame of different experimental activity with conservation purposes, and given the high threat concerning populations of Pinna nobilis, the relationship between this endemic bivalve and the shrimp Pontonia pinnophylax has been studied. This study was carried out during three years. Thus, biometric records of total length (LT) and cephalothorax (CF) of 11 individuals of the commensal decapod were registered with the aim to establish the relationship between both species. The studied shrimps showed an average LT of 3.5 ± 0.45 cm and and CF of 1.13 ± 0.20 cm and up to two couples were observed in the same fan mussel. Moreover, the presence of the crab Nepinnotheres pinnotheres coexisting with Pontonia pinnophylax was also observed for the first time in Mediterranean French waters.
