Simplified High Performance Injection Systems for Dual-fuel Engines

With their fuel flexibility and low emissions in the gaseous fuel mode, dual-fuel engines are increasingly popular. Currently, they require two fuel injection circuits, one for pilot injection in the gas fuel mode and one for 100 % liquid fuel in the diesel mode. To counter this complexity, injection specialist L’Orange is developing a simplified injection system for dual-fuel engines having a single fuel circuit with one high pressure pump plus one injector per engine cylinder.
The global population of gas engines has increased substantially in recent years due to their favourable combination of high efficiency, low emissions and fuel flexibility. The latter ensures unlimited engine operation even if the gas supply is interrupted, while ignition of the fuel gas using a liquid fuel pilot injection has advantages in comparison with spark-plug ignition.
