Limiting Peak Dynamic Loads in Linear Oscillators due to Transient Excitation

Calculating temporal patterns for torsional force and movement in drive systems is usually performed using software. As a convenient check on simulation results, formulae developed at the Technical University of Chemnitz allow limit values for torque and speed in torsional oscillators to be estimated by modal analysis.

1 Checking torsional loading

Sudden state changes in drive systems elements occur as a result of impact loads from couplings and clutches, collisions, the sudden fracture of a component, releases of tension, impacts, load drops, failure of supports. In the vibrations and deformations caused, it is mostly the peak values that are of interest. These can be estimated using the method described below, which likewise allows the results of numerical computations to be checked and errors of input and calculation to be revealed [1, 2, 3].
