Medium Speed Diesel Engine for IMO Tier III

Selective catalytic reduction is the engine industry’s ready-to-fit panacea technology for strict emissions limits like IMO Tier III in Emission Control Areas (ECAs). ABC is vigorously pursuing exhaust gas recirculation as an alternative which, though it requires more design and development work from the manufacturer, enables the engine to remain a single piece of equipment, with all its major systems integral to its architecture.
Customer expectations for engine based systems are clearly set. The engine has to meet the limits set out by a range of emissions legislations, and with the increasing prices of traditional liquid fuels, lowest possible fuel consumption is demanded. But together with these basic requirements, it is also expected that an engine is compact, so that payload is maximised. Furthermore, there is a strong preference that all engine systems are integrated, so that there is no need for separately installed components or aftertreatment on board...
