Abstract
Reconstruction of the sternum has traditionally been performed using mesh and patch, with the addition of methylmethacrylate when rigidity is necessary. Improvements in materials and techniques have led to innovative and promising developments in sternal reconstruction, including the use of titanium, cryopreserved allografts, and autografts. Herein, we review the traditional materials and techniques and examine several recent developments in sternal reconstruction.
