Increasing the overall efficiency of long-haul trucks is of high importance - for OEMs due to upcoming CO2 legislation and for end customers to reduce the total cost of ownership. Harvesting the waste heat by means of a Rankine cycle is considered as the biggest single measure to contribute to these targets. Mahle follows the eWHR Boost Box approach by packaging the Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) system in a box and generating electric energy, offering significant potential for the future drivetrain.
The Mahle Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) system is based on the Rankine Cycle (RC), a technology known from steam power and combined steam-power plants and research projects for mobile applications for decades.
