Boosting system suppliers are expanding the scope of their technical solutions ever wider to accommodate different engine concepts. We talked to Dr. Hermann Breitbach, Vice President Global Engineering and Innovation at BorgWarner Turbo Systems, about the growing competition in the field of electric boosting and ball bearing systems as well as variable-geometry turbochargers for gasoline engines.

Dr. Hermann Breitbach was born in Andernach (Germany) in 1964. He began his career as a Research Associate at the RWTH Aachen University and the University of California in San Diego. After this, he held various development and management positions at Delphi Automotive in Luxembourg and, finally, worked as Chief Engineer in England. From 2004, he worked as a Senior Manager at Daimler in Stuttgart, where he was initially responsible for the advanced development of diesel engines and later for production development of injection and turbocharging systems, as well as operating fluids....
