Friction Reduction of Highly Loaded Injection System Components

To realise increasing peak pressure an efficient and purposeful design of the injection system components is required. The APL group develops tool chains which combine tools from simulation and testing to optimise the hydrodynamic bearings of mechanical engine components with regard to friction and wear.
Rising Injection Pressure
The focus of current and future development of drive trains is on the striving for maximum energy efficiency while at the same time minimising emissions. The increase in injection pressure has proved to be an effective instrument for increasing the efficiency of the engine while simultaneously reducing the amount of pollutants emitted, especially particle emissions, both for diesel and gasoline direct injection engines. A few years ago maximum injection pressures were below 2000 bar for diesel engines and below 150 bar for gasoline engines.
