Diuretika zählen zu den ältesten Medikamenten gegen Hypertonie, sind jedoch in ihrer Wirkweise nicht völlig verstanden, z. B. hält die blutdrucksenkende Wirkung unabhängig von der Volumenreduktion kontinuierlich an. Um Alternativen zu dem in nahezu allen Kombinationen vorhandenen Diuretikum Hydrochlorothiazid aufzuzeigen, stellt dieser Artikel die differenzialtherapeutischen Prinzipien der Diuretikatherapie bei Hypertonie dar.
