Ragnar Norberg, 1945–2017

On December 18, 2017, Ragnar Norberg died at the age of 72 in London after long illness. Ragnar was born in Stockholm on March 15, 1945, and obtained his academic degrees from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo: Cand. Act. (M.Sc. in Actuarial Science) 1971, Cand. Real. (M.Sc. in Mathematical Statistics) 1974, and Dr. Philos. 1989. His distinguished career started with a Research Assistantship at the University of Oslo, Institute of Mathematics, Department of Statistics and Insurance Mathematics, 1971–1974. Thereafter he held the following full-time positions at the same institution: Associate Professor of Statistics, 1974–1980, Professor of Mathematical Statistics, 1980–1985, Professor of Mathematical Statistics and Insurance Mathematics, 1985–1991. During a sabbatical in 1980–1981 he worked as Research Officer at Storebrand Insurance, Oslo.
