It is good to see a book specifically on the topic of 3D dosimetry in radiotherapy (RT), as it is often only included as a part of a wider subject. However, there is an initial question as to the definition of ‘Clinical 3D dosimetry in modern radiation therapy’. This is immediately answered in the book Preface. While ‘dosimetry’ may be strictly considered as ‘dose measurement’, this book tackles the broadest interpretation. Determination of dose by both computational and measurement methods are considered in all clinical aspects including commissioning, verification, quality assurance and auditing of radiotherapy planning and treatment systems. Does ‘3D’ mean that only truly 3D dosimetry is addressed? No, reference dosimetry with point detectors through to 2D, semi-3D, true 3D and 4D dosimetry is covered.
