Dear Reader,
You are holding the first printed issue of the new EFORT Journal European Orthopaedics and Traumatology in your hands. EFORT as an umbrella organisation of 40 national orthopaedic associations in Europe is committed to the education of general orthopaedic surgeons and to the communication of science and the latest results of evidence-based medicine. As you all well know, besides instructional lectures, controversial case discussions, comprehensive lecture courses and symposia at its main congresses, EFORT also successfully organises Instructional Courses for basic- and advanced-level trained surgeons, EFORT Fora at national congresses, and ExMEx (experts meet experts) meetings throughout Europe. Furthermore, EFORT is working on publishing a new textbook/encyclopaedia.
Now we have reached a milestone in our educational programme with the new journal. We felt that there is a need for an organ where excellent members of the European orthopaedics community can communicate their latest results and where specialists can instruct orthopaedic surgeons in their particular field of expertise.
I wish much success to Wolfhart Puhl, the Editor-in-Chief, the new editorial board and the reviewers in their tremendous work in establishing a European Journal for our orthopaedic family.
