Dit boek uit een serie van boeken over motiverende gespreksvoering, uitgegeven bij Guilford Press, is het eerste boek waarin deze methode wordt toegepast in groepsbehandeling. In Nederland is motiverende gespreksvoering voornamelijk bekend binnen de verslavingszorg. Het eerste boek over motiverende gespreksvoering van Miller en Rollnick (1991) betrof dan ook de toepassing van deze individuele behandelmethode binnen de verslavingszorg.
