Abstract

Pancreatic islet transplantation is a promising experimental treatment for type I diabetic patients. A non-invasive method to accurately determine beta cell volume in the transplant could give insight in the faith of the islets after transplantation. Such a method will also provide the possibility to monitor the effects of therapeutic interventions on beta cell volume, which could improve the treatment of diabetic patients.
