In 1950, the left-leaning American journal of opinion Partisan Review invited an array of leading intellectuals to answer a set of questions about whether and, if so, why religion might be resurgent. The intellectuals responded with alacrity and their responses filled several issues. This article offers a retrospective comment on the original questions in 1950s context and ventures a new set of answers.
