Hughes-Stovin syndrome—a rare entity with combination of venous thrombosis and multiple pulmonary arterial aneurysms

Hughes-Stovin syndrome (HSS) is a rare radiological and clinical entity which may be life threatening, named after Hughes et al. who described the condition in 1959 [1]. It is characterized by deep venous thrombosis and multiple pulmonary artery aneurysms.

A 33-year-old male patient was referred for computed tomography (CT) angiographic evaluation of the pulmonary arteries and superior vena cava. The patient had history of deep venous thrombosis 3 years back and now, he presented with cough, breathlessness, chest pain, and intermittent bouts of hemoptysis. On clinical examination, a large number of venous collaterals in the chest and abdominal wall were noted with facial fullness and distended neck veins. Non-contrast CT followed by CT pulmonary angiogram was performed to see for the vascular system of the thorax to rule out pulmonary thromboembolism and superior venacaval obstruction.
