Schistosomiasis Misleading Gastric Cancer Treatment
- 11 Downloads
Gastric cancer (GC) is the 5th most common cancer and the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide . Gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy is considered the standard surgical treatment for locally advanced GC . Recently, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (CMT) has been indicated for patients with T3/T4 tumors and/or lymph node involvement (N+) . Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease caused by different Schistosoma species and is considered one of the most socio-economically devastating parasitic diseases worldwide . It is endemic in some tropical areas but as the flow of immigrants and travelers is increasing across the globe, it is important to be aware of it when considering differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases [5, 6].
