Vitrectomy for Treatment of Macular Hole in Diabetic Retinopathy

Abstract

We evaluated the efficacy of vitrectomy for treatment of macular hole in 12 patients with diabetic retinopathy. Macular hole closure, improvement in visual acuity, and retinal attachment rates were all 83%. Postoperative complications included temporary intraocular pressure elevation (2), nuclear sclerosis (3), and retinal redetachment (2). Vitrectomy is an effective and safe method for treating macular hole in diabetic retinopathy.
